Why, hello there! Look at this brand new blog. I think it looks quite spiffy.
My name is Robyn and I’ve been blogging for a few years now over at Curious Robyn. Unfortunately, after my dad died in September last year, I lost myself a little. It’s really hard dealing with the loss of someone who forms such an integral part of who you are as a person, but I’m getting there. A lot has happened since Dad’s passing and I feel like I’ve shed a few layers of my old self. Hence, the rise of Uphill Writer, a blog about me, my life, and my world.
In fact, blogging is such a huge part of my life that I also founded the South African Bloggers group on Facebook that many of you reading this are probably a member of. (If not, go ahead and join in on the awesome.)
Juggling the old and the new
Since my last post on Curious Robyn in October, my world has changed so much. I’ve moved and now live in a spacious home in a beautiful area instead of the shoe box that my husband and I called home for 2 years. Not a literal shoe box of course, we are not silkworms.
My brother and I (with whom I run a copywriting and social media business) took Inkfish Digital to the next level with a full rebrand and I even built the website you can see here: InkfishDigital.com. It’s not bad, right? I’m very proud and all of the hard work and long hours it took were totally worth it. The business is expanding and it’s an exciting time for our little team. (Long may it continue!)
There were a couple of other small shifts such as Daniel (that’s my husband) getting a new job, we also got a new car, and I became mommy to a rescue pup named Pip!
Frankly, life has been pretty great. I even had time to FINALLY finish off my new blog and write this post!
Why “Uphill Writer”?
I know many of you are asking what on earth this “Uphill Writer” stuff is all about. Settle down, friends. I will answer all of your questions. Let me start off by saying that there are a lot of humans out here in the deep blue internet and that means finding an original blog name is really hard! After searching high and low, I finally found something that I felt described me well.
- If you consider yourself to be a writer, you’ll know that it’s not always easy. Sometimes, attempting to coerce the words you know that you have the skill to share, simply refuse to come out the way you’d like. To put it simply, writing can be an uphill battle.
- Do you know when you’re writing on an unlined piece of paper and the words automatically start to drift up or down? When the words drift upwards (like they do when I write) it’s called uphill writing. Apparently people who write this way tend to have a positive outlook on life. I like to think that’s true.
And there you have it, that’s why I’m the Uphill Writer and if you choose to stick around, you can look forward to reading more of my ramblings and random findings in upcoming posts.
If you’re as stoked as I am that I’m back, leave me a comment, share this post, or say ‘hi’ via one of my social media channels. All in all, I’m glad to be back. No fanfare, no big countdown, just a few genuine thoughts by me.
Thanks for reading!
