Experiments at Uphill Writer

Hello friends and readers! Welcome to 2018.

Seeing as February has arrived (and we all know that January is the first pancake of the year), it’s time to make a few changes around here!

What would life be without a little fun and change? Boring, that’s what. I’ve decided to do a little experimenting on the blog, because I can. This is my blog after all.

Basically, I’ve been struggling to blog lately. As much as I love it, I simply get really busy and in the list of things that need to be done, blogging has fallen to the bottom. Another issue I seem to be having is that my laptop is for work and my PC is for gaming, which means my brain won’t get into blogging mode! I realise this is weird.

All of these things are excuses (I know this), but right now they’re real and they’re keeping me from blogging. Which is a pity as I love it. I write for my daily job over at Inkfish Digital and that means I need a place to let my words run without being tied to anything official, you know?

In order to make things easier for myself, I’ve decided to make a change to the blog. One thing I can do with ease is access my phone. Whether I’m in bed, in the car, or on the couch, my phone is a safe space.

So, for the rest of 2018, I’ve decided to put the blog (as a website) on hold and instead try my hand at Instablogging.

I realise that blogging via Instagram is not a new concept, but I think it might just work for me. At least, I hope it will. If not, that’s okay because this is an experiment after all.

I’ve created an Uphill Writer Instagram account (give me a follow) and I’ll be attempting to post at least once a week.

Why Instagram?

There are a few reasons I have for choosing Instagram as my social blogging platform and why I think they could work for me.

  1. It’s easy – I can access the app on the go via my trusty phone. My Samsung S6 has a great camera and even once I upgrade, I always focus on having the ability to take nice photos. I can also create images on the go via the Canva app (which I adore).
  2. I love Instagram – As one of my favourite social medias, Instagram makes sense for me. I spend a lot of time scrolling and watching Instastories, so I may as well put it use for me. I also have a couple of other Instagram accounts already including @CapeTownCoffeeWorks and @PixelandPip. And of course, my personal Insta, @Robi27.
  3. It suits my needs – I’m not looking to get rich with my blog, I’m simply looking for a place to share. I don’t need to blog, but I enjoy it, so I’m willing to give this experiment a shot.

So what do you think? Have you attempted a similar experiment? Let me know in the comments below!

And again, please follow Uphill Writer on Instagram and leave your Insta handle below, so that I can follow you back. You can also Like Uphill Writer on Facebook where all posts will be shared too. So convenient!

Chat soon and happy blogging!

P.S. As most of you know, I started the South African Bloggers Network on Facebook a couple of years ago. If you’re a blogger, join the group!

If you just enjoy reading blogs, there’s something new just for you! Visit the South African Blogs group on Facebook and find great content from SA bloggers.

  1. This is a great idea. My Instagram account is my main focus and then the blog is like an add on. It’s so much easier to keep up with Instagram. I have followed and can’t wait to see what you get up to.

  2. I love this: “and we all know that January is the first pancake of the year”!
I think that Instagram is fast becoming the go-to platform because of how user friendly it is and how fun it is! Good luck with Instablogging!
